Our 90,000 sq. ft. (8,360m²) headquarters in Saffron Walden, England – just outside the university city of Cambridge – features an ISO7 (Class 10,000) clean room and state-of-the-art manufacturing, research, office and laboratory facilities – all of which provide the infrastructure and environment to meet and exceed our customers needs and expectations.

As managing director, Robert is ultimately responsible for implementing Contamac’s overall business strategy: identifying new opportunities, driving organic growth and improving profit margins. A twenty five year veteran of the business coupled with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management enables Robert to also lead Contamac’s HR, recruitment and quality systems requirements that include ISO 9000, EN 13485 and CFR21, ensuring that the business and its staff have always been qualified and capable of meeting every challenge head-on. As with all senior members of the Contamac team, Robert is well-travelled, and enjoys discovering new places and sampling international cuisine.
Robert specialises in lean manufacturing/JIT, process design and optimisation, facilities and supply chain management, and strategic resource planning. He lists among his proudest achievements at Contamac overseeing the design, planning and construction of the company’s new state-of-the-art head office and production facility, and the selection and integration of Contamac’s fully-automated CNC lathing lines, capable of 24/7 lights-out running. Away from the office, Robert is a keen golfer and Tottenham Hotspur supporter, and enjoys travelling.
Simon is both Contamac’s surgical director and in charge of Contamac US. A Chartered accountant and tax adviser, Simon never wanted to work only with numbers, and so took on consultancy roles in a variety of industries, including contact lenses. This led him to Contamac, where ultimately he moved over to the IOL manufacturing side of the business, and where he claims that he still, “Learns something new every day”. Simon is a Chelsea FC supporter and also describes himself as, “An ex-cricketer turned bad golfer.”
Stephen Blackwell is the Finance Director at Contamac and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Stephen joined Contamac in 2021, bringing his expertise after serving in various roles at Bosch for over two decades in roles including Finance Director at Bosch Lawn and Garden Limited and Head of Business Unit Controlling at Robert Bosch GmbH. Outside the office, Stephen enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and traveling. As a British Triathlon Coach, he actively guides young athletes in their sporting journey.
John Clamp is Director of Strategic Projects at Contamac and is a dynamic innovator with substantial experience and achievement in the Optometry industry, specialising specifically in contact lenses. John has patented several inventions, including soft contact lenses for correcting abnormal corneal topography, contact lens optics, contact lens designs and multifocal contact lenses. In his free time, John is part of the thriving maker community in Cambridge and loves projects, having built things such as a twin bicycle super-soaker, human fruit machine, and many electronic gadgets.
Stephen is the Technical Director for the Medical Device Group. He joined Contamac in 2014 with 30 years of experience in the medical device industry in roles that span Research, New Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering and Operations. He has developed several FDA-approved IVD, Class III and Combination Products with MediSense (now Abbot Diabetes Care), Cambridge Sensors, Cygnus and Corium. Dr Williams holds a Ph.D. and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry, both from the University of Southampton, and in his spare time enjoys hiking and playing the guitar.
